This article walks you through the installation of the Nervepoint Access Manager Virtual Machine on VMware's ESXi Hypervisor.
Step 1. Pre-requisites
You must first have the VM package, open your browser and navigate to /app/manpage/agent/article/627740/Access-Manager:-download-links and download the ESXi image.
You will be given an option to proceed with downloading either Access Manager or LogonBox, as we are installing Access Manager in this case select the option Not right now, I'm just interested in downloading Access Manager.
On the next page enter your details into the registration form. You must register in order to obtain a license key. This is required.
You will receive your license key by email immediately after submitting the form.
You may only register once to evaluate the product. If you need to extend your evaluation period, please contact our sales team sales@hypersocket.com and we’ll be happy to issue you an extended evaluation license.
Click Register to continue.
On the download page select your preferred platform and click Download.
Step 2. Installing the VM
To install the OVA image onto an ESXi VM host, first launch the vSphere client.
Select the New menu and then click on Deploy OVF Template…
Click the Browse button and navigate to the location where the OVA image was downloaded earlier.
Click Next to continue.
As we have created a generic OVA image that can be used with many VM hosts, ESXi may pop up a warning message.
This does not cause any problems, just click Yes to continue.
Click Next on the Template Details page, then choose a memorable name for this machine and click Nextagain.
Continue through the rest of the deploy wizard, selecting a resource pool and choosing the destination storage and disk format.
Click Finish to start the image deployment.
Click Close when the deployment completes.
The Access Manager VM can now be powered on.
Step 3. VMCentre Configuration
Open up the VM console in vSphere after the machine has booted. You will be presented with a screen prompting you to set a password. Enter a new password, confirm it and click Set.
You are now logged on to VMCentre.
To the left is the main VMCentre screen which we have created to help easily manage the virtual machine.
To learn about all of the features of VMCentre please refer to our separate administrator guide.
For now, all we need to do is to configure the networking.
Click the Network Configuration button on the left hand side.
The network configuration defaults to DHCP, so if this is enough for your configuration then no further configuration is needed.
For setting a static address though, type in the values of the DNS server and DNS search domain, then type in the hostname that will be used for the VM.
Untick the DHCP checkbox and enter values for the IP, Gateway, Broadcast and Subnet addresses.
Once the configuration has been completed, scroll down the page and click Save. Click Apply on the confirmation window that appears.
You may now continue the configuration in a web browser by connecting to https://<hostname>
When connecting to the management interface for the first time, you will be asked to run through the setup wizard to finalize the installation.
